Our History

Background

Dominion Financial Management, Inc. was founded in April of 1999 in Raleigh, North Carolina and relocated in October of 1999 to Middle Tennessee. Founded as a Christian Ministry, our desire is to teach personal finances ensuring that families have strong personal budgets, understand their credit and learn to reduce or eliminate their debt. At that time, those who came to us for counseling seemed most interested in purchasing homes. Due to the amount of growth in Rutherford County, we found our offices busy with first-time homebuyers purchasing homes and qualifying for special programs to assist them with their down payments and closing costs. Throughout this time, we focused on our core areas regarding budgeting, credit and debt. During those years, we helped over 300 families purchase their first home.

As the housing and financial markets experienced challenges, families found it more challenging to qualify for home mortgages. This allowed an opportunity for us to help families overcome the obstacles to homeownership. Again, the same areas of budgeting, credit and debt were stressed to help families work to qualify for home financing. Our counseling services included many clients who entered long-term counseling to work to accomplish their goals. These times also brought us the opportunity to provide foreclosure prevention counseling to assist families in understanding their options when facing mortgage delinquency.

Currently, we have streamlined our mission such that our focus is managing all things financial from a Biblical perspective. Our core areas of emphasis are budgets, credit, debt, savings, assets and housing. We assist families through a combination of financial coaching, counseling and education so that they become financially capable with the motivation and support to make sound financial decisions. From 2007 to 2014, we focused on foreclosure intervention throughout the mortgage and financial crisis and provided assistance to over 1,600 families through that program. During that same period of time, we helped 1,100 families purchase homes for the first time and obtain affordable and sustainable mortgages. However, we believe that our greatest impact and the greatest need is to assist families with the basic tools necessary to manage their finances, accomplish their goals and be better prepared for financial challenges that may arise in the future.

Impact
As we celebrate seventeen years in Middle Tennessee, we recognize a continuous interest in homeownership. There is a  realization that in order to have a successful and sustainable homeownership experience, one must be partnered with capable knowledge, skills, and education in the area of personal finance. We acknowledge and strive to help families make the financial changes necessary and provide homebuyer education classes to help not only first time homebuyers achieve the dream of homeownership but anyone who desires to build net worth. We have been blessed to help over 1700 families purchase houses creating approximately $ 160 Million dollars in economic impact in the State of Tennessee since 2008. This work has led to numerous awards including the dream maker award, and a top producer award in urban and rural markets for the state of Tennessee each year since its inception in 2011.  We have had the privilege of working with those who are ready to own a home and with those who need a little extra time to move toward that goal. Last year alone we delivered over 600 services to help families take control of their personal finances.
