Because of this, we feel every future homeowner would benefit from receiving Homebuyer Education in order to learn the steps of the home-buying process and how to be a sustainable homeowner. THDA requires Homebuyer Education for all borrowers applying for down payment assistance and we encourage it for all future homebuyers.” – THDA
The Realizing the American Dream curriculum is used during the class and is given to each along with their Certificate of Completion. The following topics are covered during this class:
- Are You Ready to Buy A Home?
- Managing Your Money
- Understanding Credit
- Obtaining a Mortgage Loan
- Shopping for a Home
- Protecting Your Investment
The six-hour class is designed to help first-time homebyers understand the pros and cons of owning a home, how to obtain a mortgage and the steps involved in purchasing a home. The Realizing the American Dream workbook is used during the class and belongs to the student to take home. There is also a maintenance guide to take home that has a checklist for maintenance activities.
Students need to:
- Select the date (Saturday or Tuesday)
- Register for the class
- Attend at the chosen time.
Payment is collected at the beginning of the class along with the Intake Forms.
JANUARY – DECEMBER 2019
Join us for the homebuyer education class no matter where you are in the homebuying process. If you are just getting started, the class teaches you all you need to know. And you have a certified instructor to answer your questions along the way. This class is required if you are receiving down payment assistance from THDA, Welcome Home, The Housing Fund, Affordable Housing Resources, the City of Murfreesboro and USDA.
The class is held at our office in Smyrna, TN. We begin at 7:30 am (Saturday) or 8:00 am (Tuesday).
